113 no more 04

Today I bade farewell to the familiar surroundings of Lark Lane and ventured forth to my new home in darkest Kensington. For those of you not familiar with the various districts of Liverpool, Kensington L6 is pretty much the polar opposite of it's London namesake. It looks a little like a post-apocalyptic version of what I imagine rural Jamaica to look like. One good point is that I get a shitload of locks, bolts and alarms to keep me safe- the Aigburth abode was always a little lax when it came to matters of health and safety. One very, very good point is that gas and electricity are included in the (already cheap) rent- this means no bills through the door, which means no bills to be left unopened resulting in financial ruin at the end of the year. I know that I'll probably never find housemates as good as Gribsy and Hoop-la, and it pains me to think that I may never again know the simple joy of composing songs about Rick Waller in my dressing gown. Still, onwards and upwards, as they say.

Still Rooney

Don't you just love being right? I think I love it even more than most people because I hardly ever am. But, having told anyone prepared to listen over the past few months that "that lad's gonna take Europe apart", I feel particularly vindicated by The Roo's performance so far at Euro 2004. I must admit, however, that even I never expected him to be quite this good. I really have never seen a player quite like him, not an England player anyway. Even if the rest of the tournament is a disaster, and he gets sent off or something, which I sincerely hope doesn't happen, he's still done enough in taking his rightful place at the summit of English football and forcing the player haters to chow down on their greasy, bitter words. I know we're not going to be able to keep him, but I'm not going to think about that yet.

I feel a similar way about Victor FME to how I feel about the Roo. I've known for ages that they're something very special, and I'm just waiting for everybody else to get with the program. Hurry up! And while you're at it, check out Sammo Hung. Fucking brilliant band.
